Oracle Cloud

An SPF record is a type of Domain Name System (DNS) record that identifies which mail servers are authorized to send email on behalf of your domain. SPF records help to prevent email spoofing by verifying that the email message is coming from a legitimate source. When a mail server receives an email, the mail server can check the SPF record of the domain to verify that the email is coming from an authorized source. If the email is not coming from an authorized source, the mail server can reject the email or mark it as spam.

How to Configure SPF for Oracle Cloud

  • Sign in to your DNS management console
  • Go to Tools & Settings > DNS Template
  • Modify the DNS TXT record related to SPF
  • For Oracle Cloud, an SPF TXT record will have the following syntax:

mydomain.com    TXT  v=spf1 include:<continentkey>.oracleemaildelivery.com -all

Oracle Cloud continent keys list:

Americainclude:rp.oracleemaildelivery.com
Asia/Pacificinclude:ap.rp.oracleemaildelivery.com
Europeinclude:eu.rp.oracleemaildelivery.com
All commercial regionsinclude:rp.oracleemaildelivery.com include:ap.rp.oracleemaildelivery.com include:eu.rp.oracleemaildelivery.com
UKinclude:rp.oraclegovemaildelivery.uk
  • This record should be published in the DNS records section for the relevant domain.

Worth noting: To activate SPF for outgoing emails using Oracle Cloud if your domain previously lacked an SPF record, all you need to do is publish the aforementioned record. If your DNS already contains an SPF record, you must update it to include Oracle Cloud as shown below:

Previous SPF record:  v=spf1 include:spf.domain.com -all

Modified SPF record:  v=spf1 include:spf.domain.com include:rp.oracleemaildelivery.com -all

  • Save adjustments.
  • Allow your DNS to process the adjustments for 72 hours.
